Welcome

I believe drumming should be fun, rewarding, and something you can enjoy for life. I teach students of all ages and abilities — from beginners picking up sticks for the first time to experienced drummers refining their skills. Because with drumming, there’s always something new to learn.

What to expect

You’ll learn how to groove, build strength and speed in your hands, improve coordination and power, and deepen your understanding of drumming history (because talking about great drummers is actually fun). We’ll also play along to some of the world’s best songs.

About

About

I grew up in a country town on the Sunshine Coast and started drumming at 12. Saxophone and classical guitar didn’t stick — drumming did. I was first drawn to rock and punk, but over time I’ve developed a big appreciation for jazz, funk, and drumming in any genre.

After school I practiced relentlessly and played in cover bands around Brisbane. At 20 I auditioned for Custard and Powderfinger in the same week, and went on to play in Powderfinger for 20 years, touring the world, writing songs, and playing a lot of gigs.

The main reason I teach is to pass on what I’ve learned as a drummer, band member, and musician.

Writing helps you understand how songs work and how bands create music together, while gigging teaches you how to listen, trust your instincts, and really play the drums.
